Lucknow Zoo gets new inmates from Israel

The centenary celebrations of the

Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Garden

or

Lucknow Zoo

got grand with the arrival of much-awaited zebras from

Israel

. Out of the six zebras (three pairs), two male and one female zebra arrived at the city zoo on Thursday evening.
On the occasion,

RK Singh

, the Director of Lucknow Zoo shared, “It is indeed a very long-awaited moment for us because the zebra enclosure in the zoo was lying vacant for the past six years. The tender for the adoption of zebra was initiated around two and half years back but due to the Covid crisis it took so much time. The timing of making them part of the zoo couldn’t have been better as we are completing 100 years on November 29. They travelled halfway around the globe from Israel’s Zoological Center Tel Aviv-Ramat Gan via Abu Dhabi to New Delhi and later were brought here by road. Out of the six zebras, three have arrived and the remaining will be here within the next few days. The total cost involved is around Rs 1 crore.”

He adds, “The zebras will be quarantined for 2-3 weeks in a cleaned and sanitized enclosure so that they spread or catch any infection, and then only visitors will be allowed.”
