Lucknow University: Feet on ground, eye on sky
Winning a varsity’s top honour is delightful. Winning that honour as your alma mater enters its centenary year is simply historic.
No wonder Durgesh Tripathi, Anand Kumar Yadav and Vibhu Banerjee were on cloud nine as they climbed the steps to Lucknow University’s 62nd convocation stage to receive the Chancellor’s Gold, Vice-Chancellor’s Gold and Chakravarti Gold Medal, respectively, amid hyperactive camera shutters and thunderous applause on Tuesday.
Dapper in a red graduation kurta and with a redwhite sash hugging his torso, 22-year-old Durgesh could barely hide his excitement as he received his medal from governor and LU chancellor Anandiben Patel. An aspiring social worker, he gave full credit for his success to his group of 150 peers who help him educate slum children.
“If an individual spends only Rs 25-100, he or she can educate an underprivileged child. All one needs is faith. I believed I could do it. So, did my peers. Together, we have made a difference. And today, I sit here basking in the glory of a coveted medal,” said Durgesh, an MA topper in defence studies.
For Vibhu, who won the Chakravarti medal, working passionately for what you believe in is the key to success. “I am not much of a planner for the future. I live in the present. I enjoy each day as it comes. I spearhead awareness campaigns with the same belief. My mantra has worked for me,” said the aspiring human rights lawyer.
Best NCC cadet of LU, Anand couldn’t agree more after winning the vice-chancellor’s medal. The 23-yearold also said that to change the world, one must first change oneself. “So, I work on myself from time to time.”
Shambhavi Pandey, Muskan Tripathi, Charu Bajaj, Mansi Bajpai, Bhavna Kanaujia, Palak Gupta, Ram Sumer, Shweta Maurya, Shivashish Mishra and Pragati Srivastava who won the Chancellor’s Bronze were no less elated. They posed with their medals for the camera.
Selfies and hugs remained the order of the day as achievers documented their success both offline and online.
