Colleges affiliated to Lucknow University (LU) have improved their medal tally by nearly three times campared to 2017.

At the convocation on Tuesday, 29 medals were bagged by college students who topped various subjects. Two years ago, 11 students from various colleges had won medals while in 2018, the tally was 21. Students of LU usually win most medals every year.


This time, eight medals went to Mumtaz PG College, which had received only two last year. Jai Narain PG College won six medals, followed by Karamat Husain Muslim Girls PG College with five medals.

Three medals were awarded to Navyug Kanya Mahavidyalaya and two medals each went to

Isabella Thoburn

College, Shia PG College and Avadh Girls PG College. National PG College won one medal.

Arij Husain Abdi, a BA student of Mumtaz PG College, won the Best Player of the University title. “Our college is proud that Saliha Khatoon (BA student with seven medals) and I together won eight medals. My medal was unexpected. I lost my parents when I was 12. Had they been alive, they would be distributing sweets already,” Arij said.

BA students of Avadh Girls PG College Shambhavi Pandey and Muskaan Tripathi both won the chancellor’s bronze. “We are celebrating,” Shambhavi said.

A student of MSc (Chemistry) at Jai Narain PG College, Soni Shukla bagged three gold medals. “My teachers had told me that it was difficult for an affiliated college student to win a medal in science. They are now proud I proved them wrong,” she said.

Arshiya Parveen of Karamat Husain Muslim Girls’ PG College won four gold medals, including one for best MA English student and two for highest marks to a girl student in MA I and II. Sonia Gupta of the same college won a gold for being BCom first-year topper.
