LUCKNOW: The murder of Thakurganj-based businessman
Mahendra Maurya (28) was a fallout of the 'dirty attraction' the prime conspirator had developed for the deceased's wife. The assued was also her maternal uncle.
Mahendra of Bhuhar village in the area was shot two times in the night on July 25 when he was returning to his home after closing the shop for the day.
The facts surfaced after the police arrested two accused who had conducted a recce of the victim after he left the shop for his home.
Both have confessed to their crime and disclosed the motive behind the murder and names of the persons involved in the crime.
The arrested men were identified as Satish Gautam and Mukesh Rawat. Others named in the crime were identified as
Sanjay Maurya of Saadatganj, Gyan Singh Yadav of Para, Dinesh Singh Thakur of Para and Shani Kashyap of Dubagga.
ADCP, West Zone, Chiranjeev Nath Sinha, said that Sanjay Maurya is maternal uncle of Mahendra's wife and he had a brawl with Mahendra for opposing his amorous advances towards latter's wife a couple of days back, before he was gunned down on July 25. Mahendra got married around six months back.
"Gyan is a criminal and was released from the Barabanki jail a few days back before the murder. It was alleged that Sanjay facilitated Gyan's bail in the case to get Mahendra eliminated," said Sinha. "As marriage between close relatives is a taboo in the society, their families did not give consent and in due course of time both were married to other persons. But Sanjay did not forget his 'love'. He said the social denial for marriage gave Sanjay a motive to kill Mahendra. "In recent past, Mahendra got a whiff of Sanjay's advances towards his wife and confronted him at Agra Expressway warning him to withdraw from the fray," Sinha said.
Sinha said Sanjay persuaded Mukesh and Satish to do recce of Mahendra regarding the time he left the shop for the day. Sanjay arranged bail for Gyan who executed the murder. In the entire conspiracy, he used ID of his acquaintance Dinesh Thakur to get a SIM card issued to avoid his own arrest. As a backup plan, he gave money to one Shani Kashyap to counter any exigency during the 'operation'.
On the fateful day, Mukesh called Sanjay informing that Mahendra had left for his house in his car after closing down the shop. When Mahendra reached the over bridge, Sanjay and Gyan opened fire on Mahendra killing him on the spot, said Sinha.
