Lucknow weather: Following overnight rains, road near 1090 intersection caves in

LUCKNOW: Overnight heavy rain in Lucknow caused a road cave-in in front near the 1090 intersection in Gomti Nagar. The cave-in caused a crater-sized pothole on one of the busiest intersections and added to commuting woes.


Residents in the city on Monday woke up to waterlogged streets across different localities. As the overnight incessant rains wreaked havoc and forced residents to wade through ankle-deep waterlogged streets, the situation near the 1090 intersection in Gomti Nagar, in particular, was precarious. A portion of the carriageway reportedly caved in early Monday morning. Following the incident, the divisional commissioner and district administration reached the spot to take stock of the situation.

While the officials are still identifying possible causes for the collapse, the section apparently collapsed due to underground soil erosion caused by rainwater that had seeped inside. The divisional commissioner directed the officials to start the repair work with immediate effect and file the report highlighting what led to the collapse.

"The PWD officials have been directed to immediately repair the road and ensure that it does not lead to any causality," said Jacob.

The administration also directed that a portion of the carriageway may be kept out of bounds to facilitate the repair work and traffic to be diverted to an alternate route until the damaged portion of the road is repaired and deemed fit to be reopened for the traffic movement.

“The officials of the concerned departments have been directed to immediately repair the road and ensure that it does not lead to any causality,” said Jacob.
