Covishield, the health department has also incorporated Covaxin, which is indigenously developed in India, for inoculation of health workers.
In the second round of Covid-19 vaccination drive on Friday, both vaccines will be used. In the first round on Saturday, only Covishield shots were administered across the city.
Additional chief medical officer Dr MK Singh, who is also district immunization officer, said that Covaxin will be given to health care workers at three centres-—Lokbandhu Hospital, SPM Civil Hospital and Rani Laxmibai Hospital—while beneficiaries at other centres will get Covishield.”
Asked about hesitancy among some in taking Covaxin, chief medical officer Dr Sanjay Bhatnagar said all necessary precautions will be taken for administering both Covishield and Covaxin.
“In the case of Covaxin, we will follow full protocol before giving the jab. A recipient will be first informed about Covaxin and then asked to give her/his full medical history. Thereafter, medical screening will be done on the spot. Finally, a consent form will have to be signed by the recipient. Only those who give informed consent and are found to be eligible will get the

About 8,500 health care workers are scheduled to get vaccines in the second round at 35 centres.
The Drug Controller General of India has given both Covisheild and Covaxin emergency approval for restricted use in public interest in the country.
Covishield has been developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca and is being made in India by Pune-based Serum Institute of India.
