Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Women voters drop in 18 seats, lowest participation in Mathura

LUCKNOW: Less number of women voters participated in 18 parliamentary constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, especially in the first and second phases. According to data exclusively accessed by TOI, out of the 53 constituencies that went to polls till phase five, in at least five reserved seats including Nagina, Bulandshahr, Hathras, Agra and Jaluan, fewer women stepped out to vote in comparison to 2019.

The other constituencies were Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Kairana, Pilibhit, Bijnor, Moradabad, Rampur, Amroha, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Aligarh and Mathura. The lowest participation by women was registered in Mathura from where Bollywood actor Hema Malini is MP for the last two consecutive terms. The ECI data revealed that 73,398 less women voters turned up to the polling booth as compared to 2019. After Mathura, Rampur seat recorded 59,326 less women voter participation this year, Baghpat 54,237, Muzaffarnagar 46,642 and Bijnor 42,933 in comparison to 2019.

Reserved seats such as Bulandshahr witnessed 39,462 fewer women participating in comparison to 2019, Hathras 29,027, Nagina 15,329, Agra 7,799 and Jalaun 2,633. Similarly, 15 parliamentary constituencies recorded fewer men participating in polls. In 17 parliamentary constituencies, the total number of voter turnout was less in comparison to 2019. The ECI data also showed that the reserved constituency of Barabanki registered 78,041 more women voter participation in comparison to 2019. Barabanki's total voter women turnout was 5,95,255 out of 12,89,258 voters in the fifth phase. .
