Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Elders defy extremeweather to cast vote
Braving hot and humid weather and other odds, elderly citizens set an example on Monday by coming out of their house to exercise the right of franchise.
Among them was 103-year-old Badruddin who led his family to a polling booth in Nari Shiksha Niketan in Lucknow on Monday. He was accompanied by his son Husaini and daughter-in-law Fatima. " In our time we never missed any chance to vote and convince others also to do it for the sake our country." Badruddin said.
Krishanlal Gurnani (100) and his wife Ratna Gurnani (95) visited the forest office near Narahi to exercise their right to franchise. Talking to TOI, they said, "Senior citizens and parents should apprise the next generation about the importance of their vote just as they do for their religious festivals. "
Ninty-five-year-old Sumitra Devi came with his son to vote at Lucknow Montessori school in Husainganj, "I wanted to vote in the morning, but I did not do so due to my health. I asked my son to take me to the polling station as I, too, wanted to contribute in the nation-building." Chanda Bibi (96), who came to cast her vote at Lucknow Montessori School along with her family, said, "I was waiting for this day for long. I have participated in the voting process many a time."
Eighty-four-year-old RS Bagga, president, Lucknow Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, came with his spouse Amarjit Bagga. After casting his vote, he said, "If at this age we can participate in the polling process the younger generation should also come forward and vote for the betterment of their country."
Anwari Begum (95), who visited Jubilee Intermediate College for voting, said, "By electing right leaders we can ensure speedy development of our country."
