LUCKNOW: In a drive conducted by Hussainganj sub-divisional office of Lucknow Electricity Supply Administration (Lesa), many faults in Chinese meters were detected. The Lesa team headed by SDO Salil Yadav found that a Chinese meter was running 1000 times slower than the normal rate.
We had installed a check meter in a house in December. Today when we went there we found that while the original meter showed consumption of 86 units, the check meter showed it at 2481 units, Yadav said.
The team then checked five meters randomly and found wide gaps in the reading between the existing and check meters.

An external agency engaged in the task attributed the gap to meters being old.
Lesa needs to address the issue since about 70% of Chinese electricity meters have been installed in the city. Even many check meters too are Chinese. This is causing loss of revenue to the power department, said Yadav. In another case, the enforcement squad collected pending dues worth Rs 50,000 from a printing press on Motilal Road. The owner also paid Rs 30,000 as compounding charges to avert police action on account of power theft.
