Law students allege harassment by LU provost, demand removal

Lucknow: At least 50 law students of the Lucknow University staged a protest on the second campus accusing provost Radheshyam Prasad of Homi J Bhabha boys’ hostel of using foul language against students.
Terming their protest as ‘one teacher with many problems’, the students sat on hunger strike and demanded Prasad’s removal. The protest continued till late Friday night.
The provost, however, refuted allegations against him claiming that the students were upset as he was strictly implementing hostel rules.
“If he finds two students sitting or lying on the same bed in the hostel room, he questions their sexual orientation. Whenever students from humble backgrounds complain about lack of basic facilities he humiliates them,” said a law student Anurag Yadav.
Students also wrote to LU vice-chancellor Prof Alok Kumar Rai terming the provost’s attitude as impractical, unbearable, indecent and mentally harassing.
“If any student says anything or disagrees with him, the provost threatens to throw him out of the hostel. The provost uses abusive and indecent language,” the letter said.
Rubbishing allegations against him, Prasad said, “Students are upset as I am making them follow hostel rules. ”
