KIFF, a powerful platform for exchange of art, culture & ideas
The 11th Khajuraho International Film Festival held between Dec 16-22 on the historic and cultural land not only became a center of attraction for cinema lovers but also proved to be a powerful platform for exchange of art, culture and ideas. Actor Raja Bundela, who is the founder of the festival, said that stalwarts of Indian cinema graced this prestigious event with their dignified presence. Prominent actors Anupam Kher, Saurabh Shukla, actress Poonam Dhillon, actress Sushmita Mukherjee, actress Deepshikha Nagpal, along with many renowned artists enhanced the glory of the festival. Along with them, film producers, directors, writers and cinematographers from India and abroad also participated in large numbers.
A special achievement of the festival was that members of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) jury participated continuously for seven days and played an active role in various sessions, screenings and dialogue programs. This further strengthened the festival's international reputation and credibility.This year, the festival was dedicated to late actors Dharmendra and Asrani while artists V Shantaram and Guru Dutt were remembered. Nine Tapra Talkies were created in which films of Dharmendra, Asrani, V. Shantaram, Guru Dutt were shown in 7 Tapra Talkies, Hollywood films were shown in one Tapra Talkies and feature films, short films and documentary films of budding filmmakers were screened in one Tapra Talkies. 102 films of budding filmmakers were screened in seven days.Festival of Culture and Folk ArtsDuring the festival, artists from all states of India gave mesmerizing performances of their folk dances and folk music. Apart from this, professional dance groups and orchestras invited from Mumbai enthralled the audience with wonderful performances of songs, music and dance. Every evening was filled with cultural colors, which saw a beautiful confluence of tradition and modernity.During the festival, films based on Emergency persecution and MISA imprisonment during the Emergency period were screened for all seven days in one Tapra Talkies. On this occasion, MISA prisoners were also honored with Chhatrasal Gaurav Samman.With the aim of creating awareness about modern technology in the festival, a special stall was set up to provide information about the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its potential adverse effects, where visitors understood the positive and negative aspects related to technology.Under social concerns, an Ayush medical camp was organized to provide free health facilities to people. Along with treatment, free medicines were also distributed in the camp, which benefited a large number of local people.Honor CeremonyOutstanding artists, technicians and those who made remarkable contributions to the film industry were honored with Cine Gaurav Samman. Personalities who did remarkable work in other fields like medicine, politics, social service and education were honored with Chhatrasal Gaurav Samman. Budding filmmakers were also honored. This initiative was an important effort to encourage excellence in diverse fields of society.Master Classes and Workshops for StudentsAn important aspect of the festival was the master classes and workshops organized for students and young filmmakers. In these sessions, experts gave detailed lectures on acting, direction, writing, cinematography, editing and other aspects of filmmaking. Students got the opportunity to interact directly with experienced filmmakers and learn, which proved inspiring for their future.The festival emerged as a rich confluence of cinema, culture and education. This event not only gave Khajuraho a stronger identity on the international film map but also provided a powerful platform for young talents to move forward.
