Lucknow: To pray for their 12-year-old girl who died in a tragic road accident, a couple distributed helmets among children on Saturday evening in Gomtinagar. Student of CMS Gomtinagar, Titiksha Pathak of class VIII, was mowed down by a speeding car on March 29. TOI had highlighted the hit and run case in the past.
It was her birthday on July 2 and parents of the girl, Ratnesh and Reena invited Titksha's classmates.
A small event was organised at the same spot where the incident took place. An errant car driver who was arrested rammed a pedestrian near Patrakarpuram and hit Ratnesh's motorcycle before damaging a car parked on the roadside.
District magistrate Raj Shekhar and other senior police officials along with road safety activist Ashutosh Soti and Titiksha's parents distributed 200 helmets to small children. The idea is to encourage kids riding pillion to wear helmets. "Finding suitable helmets for children is difficult. We requested parents to ensure safety of the children," said Reena, a teacher at CMS Mahanagar. Her husband Ratnesh was also injured severely but was saved as he was wearing helmet.
