Karanda case: FIRs against X handles of SP, Cong for spreading misinformation
Varanasi: Separate FIRs were registered in UP’s Ghazipur on Monday against X handles of Samajwadi Party and Congress for ‘misleading, objectionable and inflammatory’ posts on the death of a woman in Karanda area of the district.Ghazipur’s ASP (City) RK Mishra said police have registered cases against X handles, including Congress@INDIndia and Samajwadi Party Media Cell (@mediacellsp), after detecting baseless, misleading and false comments and spreading rumours on the Katariya village incident.On Apr 15, a woman’s body was recovered from a river in Karanda. After the postmortem report, her father lodged a murder case against two men, including Hariom Pandey. Pandey was later arrested. SP functionaries’ bid to visit the woman’s home on Apr 22 led to a violent clash, after which police lodged an FIR against 246 persons, including two SP MLAs. Thereafter, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav gave a call to reach the village on Apr 29.Considering these developments, the Ghazipur administration promulgated prohibitory orders under Section 163 BNSS to avoid gathering and maintain law and order.To meet the family in Katariya village, a Congress delegation from Varanasi tried to leave for Ghazipur but was stopped by police.
