GORAKHPUR: Police on Saturday arrested sixth and the last named cop wanted in connection with the murder of Manish Gupta – the Kanpur businessman who was allegedly beaten to death by police in a hotel.

Sub-inspector Vijay Yadav was absconding since the police had registered a case of murder in connection with the incident. He was carrying an Rs 1 lakh cash reward on his head.

Vijay Yadav was arrested from Cantonment area in Gorakhpur when he was planning to surrender in a court, DIG, Gorakhpur Range, J Ravindra Gaud said.

On October 13, police had arrested constable Kamlesh Yadav. A day ago, sub- inspector Rahul Dubey and constable Prashant Kumar were arrested.

Prior to that, police had arrested the main accused, inspector JN Singh and sub-inspector Akshay Mishra.

The special investigation team (SIT) of the Kanpur police, which is probing the case, had named six policemen as accused and announced bounty of Rs 1 lakh each on them on October 8.

On September 27, then JN Singh, Akshay Mishra, Vijay Yadav and three other cops had barged into a hotel room, where Gupta was staying with his two aides.

Later, police allegedly thrashed them following which Gupta suffered fatal injuries.
