Jobless man wipes out family, shoots self

LUCKNOW: Peeved over sarcastic comments from his wife and a 10-year-old son, an unemployed man shot his family comprising a son, two daughters and wife, and then committed suicide himself in Rae Bareli district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday evening.
Reports said Dinesh Gupta (40), a resident of Shakoornagar under Civil Lines Police station of Fatehpur district lived at his ancestral village of Balapur under Mill Area police station of Rae Bareli with his wife Kiran (35), son Sharad (10) and daughters Khushi (5) and Komal (2).Earlier, he used to look after the farm-fields of his relatives on partnership and earned enough for himself and his family. A couple of years ago, Dinesh was rendered jobless when the relatives took back their land to manage them on their own.
As time passed by, with no job at hand, it became difficult for Dinesh to make the two ends meet. The crisis led to regular altercations with his wife which often turned into ugly fights. Things took a turn for the worse when Kiran was joined by her son Sharad in the regular quarrels and the boy too began to pass comments on Dinesh and his jobless state.
On Saturday afternoon, the couple entered into a heated exchange once again after which an infuriated Dinesh took out his rifle and shot his wife and three children dead. He then shot himself as well. Police said Kiran's aunt Jyoti Devi, who lives in the same village, confirmed that Dinesh was being regularly pestered by his family for sitting idol and said that they themselves had witnessed how his 10-year-old son used to belittle his father for being jobless. They told the police that several earlier occasions, Dinesh had threatened that he would finish his family and end his life as well to end the issue once and for all as he was unable to get a job despite efforts.
A case of suicide was lodged with the Mill Area police in connection with the incident and the bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem examination to confirm the cause of death.
