LUCKNOW: A man allegedly stabbed his father-in-law and mother-in-law to death after they refused to send his wife home on Wednesday evening. The crime took place in Vijay Nagar in Alambagh in Lucknow.
The accused, 42-year-old Jagdeep Kumar, was caught by neighbours while he was trying to flee and handed over to police. The victims were identified as Anant Ram (73) and his wife Asha Devi (71).
Jagdeep's wife Poonam Devi had been living with her parents for past two years after she had a marital dispute with her husband. Jagdeep and Poonam got married in 2015 and have two children. Jagdeep is unemployed.
Police said Jagdeep, originally from Rajasthan and currently residing in a rented house in Nishatganj, visited his in-laws' home on Wednesday evening.
DCP central Ashish Srivastava said Jagdeep insisted that Poonam return with him. When her parents refused, a heated argument began and Jagdeep lost his temper, pulled out a knife from his bag and attacked Anant Ram. When Asha Devi tried to intervene, she too was brutally stabbed. Poonam was also attacked when she tried to stop him but escaped with minor injuries.
Hearing her screams, neighbours came and overpowered Jagdeep.
Police recovered the blood-stained knife used in the crime from the crime scene. The injured couple was rushed to Lokbandhu Hospital where doctors declared them brought dead.
A case of murder has been registered and Jagdeep is in police custody.
