Ishan, the younger nephew of BSP supremo Mayawati (26) is a graduate in legal studies from Westminster University in the UK. His first-ever appearance on the party stage during his aunt's birthday celebrations on Wednesday in Lucknow set tongues wagging about his potential role in the party organiation.

On Thursday, he was seen taking notes as Mayawati read out instructions to party members, marking the beginning of his 'training' in politics and party management. Ishan's entry into the BSP aligns with Mayawati's strategy of infusing young blood into the party. However, he has not been assigned any official position in the party organisation yet.

Ishan will be the third member of Mayawati's family to assume a role in the BSP, further cementing the party's dynastic structure. His father, Anand Kumar, and his elder brother, Akash Anand, are second and third in command within the party's hierarchy, following Mayawati herself.

Mayawati introduced Akash, her elder nephew, to the public in a similar manner in 2017, during the state assembly elections. That year, she took him along to villages in Saharanpur, where Thakur-Dalit clashes had been reported.

Akash's role in the party became clearer in 2019, when, on Mayawati's 63rd birthday, he personally ushered SP president Akhilesh Yadav, who had come to extend his wishes, at her Lucknow residence. A few months later, Mayawati officially inducted Akash into the party as a national coordinator, a position he still holds.

Ishan may also get a role in the party organisation ahead of the 2027 elections in UP. By then, he may pick up the ropes in politics.
