IO quizzes mafia don Abhay Singh

LUCKNOW: After getting permission from the court on January 22, the investigating officer in CMO Dr Vinod Arya murder case went to Faizabad jail on Monday to record the statement of mafia don Abhay Singh.
Abhay, the police claimed, had allegedly orchestrated the murder of CMO Dr Vinod Arya, which had rocked the state capital on October 27.
Abhay's name had cropped up after some sharp shooters, arrested by the police in Dr Arya murder case on December 12, told the police that the contract to kill Dr Arya was given by mafia don Abhay Singh to brother-duo Sumit and Amit Dixit.
DIG D K Thakur confirmed to TOI on phone that the investigating officer has left for Faizabad to record Abhay's statement. After the court permission, now Abhay is legally accused in the Dr Arya murder case, the DIG further added.
Sources, on the other hand, said that the mafia don has denied his involvement in the murder of Dr Arya while testifying before the investigating officer.
However, the same could not be confirmed as the investigating officer could not be contacted till the filing of the news. Similarly, in the evening, the DIG was also unavailable for his comment.
"I am in a meeting," said the DIG when TOI tried to contact him.
Earlier, Abhay was produced before the court on January 22 after warrant B was served on jail authorities on January 14.
To recall, the special operations group (SOG), Lucknow, had arrested two sharp shooters who were claimed to have been involved in the murder of Dr Vinod Arya, a chief medical officer posted at family welfare department, on October 27.
Dr Arya was on a morning walk along with his pet dog when the miscreants had shot him dead in front of Rani Laxmi Bai School in Sector 14, Vikas Nagar, a few metres away from his house.
The two sharp shooters were identified as Vijay Dubey and Ajay Misra.
Dubey then had told the police and special operations group (SOG) sleuths that the contract to kill Dr Arya was given by mafia don Abhay Singh.
Dubey had claimed that the contract amount was Rs 5 lakh.
Dubey had told the police that Abhay had given the contract to Sumit Dixit alias Anshu and his brother Amit Dixit alias Annu, who subsequently had given the task of eliminating Dr Arya to Sudhakar Pandey, who is still wanted by the police.
Both Sumit and Amit are in jail in connection with some case.
On December 25, the Lucknow police had taken Sumit and Amit on a 24 hours remand. Both had admitted to be in touch with Abhay but denied getting any contract money as claimed by Dubey.
Senior police officials believe that Abhay is the key person who had orchestrated the murder of Dr Arya.
The officials believe that Abhay also got Dr Arya killed probably at the behest of some other person. But that would only be clear after Abhay is interrogated, the police officials claimed.
