LUCKNOW: A 30-year-old woman, working as paramedical staff in a private hospital, allegedly committed suicide on Friday afternoon. Her body was found hanging in her locked room at her in-law's house in Charan Bhatta under the PGI police station area of Lucknow.
Late on Friday night, the kin surrounded the Gautampalli police station and staged a protest against the police laxity in handling the case.
Victim's brother Akash Yadav alleged that his sister had given a complaint to the Gautampalli police station, but no action was taken.
"Police on late Friday registered a case under IPC 304 B (dowry death) 3/4 Dowry Prohibition Act against nine persons, including the victim's husband
Ashish Yadav in the complaint filed by the deceased's brother Akash Yadav at PGI police station and started the investigation," said Rana Rajesh, SHO, PGI.
Ashish has also been arrested, the SHO said.
According to the family, the girl was allegedly tortured by her in-laws for dowry right after her marriage which was solemnized 18 months ago.
A complaint against the in-laws was given to the Gautam Palli SHO and the Bandariya Bagh police outpost incharge on September 24. However, it went unheard and no action was taken.
"My sister was physically assaulted by her in-laws for dowry," said the victim's brother in the police complaint.
"When a written complaint about the same was given to Gautam Palli police station and Bandaraiya Bagh police outpost, no action was taken. Rather the outpost in charge replied that your sister is not dead yet, action will be taken when she will die," he further added.
Assistant commissioner of police, Hazratganj, Arvind Kumar Verma said that they had received the complaint on September 24.
Thereafter, as per the rules, it reached for a mediation on September 26 and then assigned a head constable on September 28.
DCP central zone, Aparna Rajat Kaushik, said that a thorough probe will be conducted into the incident. "If any laxity or indiscipline surfaces against a cop, action will be taken," she said.
