IIT-K, IIM-L to introduce joint degree programme in healthcare management
LUCKNOW: Aiming to build a robust healthcare ecosystem that not only propels the state's research in MedTech but also enriches its medical facilities, the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K) and the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow (IIM-L) have decided to offer a postgraduate joint degree programme titled ‘Healthcare Management'.
For this, the two institutes have entered into an agreement. The MoU signed by IIT-K director Prof Manindra Agrawal and IIM-L director Prof Archana Shukla is part of IIT Kanpur's ambitious Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology initiative, which is aimed at transforming medical education, driving innovation in medical technology, and advancing biomedical research.
The postgraduate joint degree programme in Healthcare Management will equip students from diverse disciplines, including doctors from govt hospitals and healthcare professionals, with a contemporary mix of business administration and medical technology knowledge, empowering them to drive positive change and innovation in the healthcare landscape.
The programme, said IIML officials, is designed to develop leaders capable of addressing the complexities and challenges of the healthcare industry and management.
It will also be associated with the Centre of Excellence in Digital Health and collaborate with several institutions in countries of strategic importance to India in the healthcare sector.
Through this initiative, IIT Kanpur seeks to enhance the healthcare industry by promoting cutting-edge education and research that bridges the gap between technology and medicine.
"The collaboration with IIM Lucknow signifies an important step in our mission at IIT Kanpur to reshape the future of healthcare education. The postgraduate joint degree programme in Healthcare Management is a key component of our Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology initiative, which seeks to enhance the integration of medical technology and innovation into our curriculum. By leveraging the strengths of both institutions, we are positioning our graduates to address the pressing challenges of healthcare with a holistic and forward-looking approach," said Prof Agarwal.
Excited about the new programme, Prof Shukla said, "I am sure that the two premier institutions will be able to develop unique opportunities in the domain of Healthcare Management by integrating the aspects of management science and technology. We believe such a partnership will be instrumental in driving several innovative solutions for the entire healthcare sector in India and abroad."
The MoU was signed in the presence of IIT-K faculties, Prof Braj Bhushan, Prof Shalabh, Prof Jayandharan G. Rao, Prof Sandeep Verma, Prof Amitabha Bandyopadhyay, and Prof Kshitij Awasthi, and Prof Girish from IIM-L.
