LUCKNOW: Expressing concern over the allegations of anomalies in the sub-inspector recruitment examinations held recently, the high court has asked the UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board to conduct and inquiry and report back within a week.
Hearing a petition filed by a group of candidates, Justice DK Arora of Lucknow bench asked the board’s chairman to provide details of steps taken to ensure fair and transparent examinations.

Petitioner Krishna Mohan Singh and four others had moved a petition seeking cancellation of results to select sub-inspectors, civil police and platoon commander of PAC. The also sought re-holding of selections by observing the conditions stated in the rules and advertisement.
The petitioners blamed the board that it had shut its eyes on various irregularities in the examinations and violated its own guidelines and conditions to favour a few candidates. It was said in the petition said that some candidates who had failed in the preliminary examination were allowed to take the mains exams.
It was also mentioned in the petition that no videography was done at examination centers. Besides, many candidates had secured 85 to 90 in Hindi paper, which raised doubt. Though whitener and blade were prohibited in the examination, the same were allowed and such copies were also evaluated, the petition said, adding that even candidates having marks well below the cut-off were declared selected.
The petitioners also accused the board of acting under political pressure and making selection for extraneous reasons. After perusal of the entire material placed on record by the petitioners, the court directed the chairman to explain the matter of things on his personal affidavit.
