LUCKNOW: Day after senior superintendent of police announced cash reward of Rs 5,000 for the team from Aliganj police station which claimed to have cracked the murder case of PWD contractor Vimlendra Tripathi alias Babloo, another crucial piece of evidence not mentioned in the police theory so far, was discovered at the scene of crime on Friday.
Taking note of the half-baked probes carried out so far, Additional superintendent of trans-Gomti police Habibul Hasan asked Aliganj cops to piece together the missing links.
"A letter covering missing elements such as motive, number of assailants, expected time of the incident and death, evidence found and its significance, etc that still need our attention will be sent to in charge of Aliganj police station," he said.
The seriousness with which the matter had been probed can be gauged from the fact that even after claiming to have cracked the case, police have not been able to find where the bike that triggered the brawl between the deceased and the assailant disappeared. Circle officer of the area, Akhilesh N Singh and in charge of Aliganj police station P K Jha could not even confirm when or which bike had gone missing.
Family of the dead man was allowed to enter the house on Friday afternoon after police reexamined the scene of crime. The family members too had strong reservations against the police theory. "We cannot believe Pradeep Mishra could have murdered Babloo all by himself. The way the bedroom was found messed up points at struggle between Babloo and a group of at least three persons," said his elder sister Dr Renu.
Till Thursday, police claimed Mishra had killed Tripathi by punching and kicking him. Postmortem report mentioned injuries by sharp weapon and on Friday a blood stained domestic knife was discovered lying on the floor next to the bed on which the body was found. Two smashed mobile phones were discovered on Friday. Earlier too a damaged phone was found. A resident of D block in Sector H of Aliganj, Babloo was found murdered on December 11. While police claimed he died on December 7, residents of the colony maintained that they heard some noise in the house till December 8.
The accused arrested for the act was Tripathi's friend and resident of Dandaiya market area. "He told police that a youth identified as
Rohit Tiwari was present with him on the day of the incident, but his role had not been probed yet," added Renu. Moreover, police only pressed sections amounting to culpable homicide though postmortem report mentioned several lethal injuries including the one on the skull.
