LUCKNOW: A division bench of the high court here, comprising Justice Vishnu Sahai and Justice RC Pandey, while allowed the habeas corpus petition filed by Prem Verma of Kheri, challenging detention under National Security Act, took a serious note of the district magistrate’s decision for not sending the representations of the detenue forthwith to the state and central governemnts.
The detenue had sent his representation on November 20 last. The court directed home secretary Dipti Kailash to inform the chief minister and the chief secretary about the inaction on the part of the DM and ensure issuing a circular to all DMs to deal with dention matters on priority basis.
LU law admission: Justice Pradeep Kant of the high court, while ordering Lucknow University and other respondents to file response within four weeks on a writ petition challenging the vires of the ordinance of 2002-2003 issued by faculty of law, restraining admission to law course of students who had applied three years after passing BA exams, directed that petitioners Shubhi Gupta and Hirendra Gupta shall not be denied admission merely on the ground of three years’ gap.
