Govt defines good ecord for varsity posts

allahabad: what is a good academic record for consideration in the appointment of lecturers, readers and professors in the state degree colleges and the universities? the government has asked the universities to define it, but when they failed to do so, the government has at long last decided it. the university of allahabad has received a letter on september 3 from the principal secretary, higher education, defining good academic record.it says that those with ph.d or 55 per cent marks at the graduate level be given relaxation of five per cent in various universities in selection. this letter is to be placed before the october 13 meeting of the au executive council for ratification so that in future advertisements for the teaching posts the definition of good academic record be inserted to remove any ambiguity in this regard. as already reported, on the chancellor's directive appointments under the personal promotion scheme have to cleared by the council at its meeting. when asked why this delay in deciding the cases, au public relations officer amarendra singh said on friday that the cases had to be decided as per the law. under the double promotion scheme the law says that such teachers as had opted the pay scale of rs 3,700 to rs 5,700 are not entitled to double promotion under the scheme. none of the teachers as readers were in the scale of rs 3,000 to rs 5,000 for legally being considered for promotion, he explained. it was in this context, he said that the vice-chancellor, prof g k mehta, has detected excess payment to the university teachers during the past years, computed at rs 1.25 crore and appointed a committee to examine as to why the excess payments be not recovered from such teachers. it is for the first time that the university has instituted a `distinguished alumnus award' to be given to those who had made significant contributions in any walk of life. the award will be given on november 15 on the occasion of the university day, the pro informed. applications on prescribed proforma, which may be had from the university registrar, should reach the registrar by october 25. the proforma may also be down loaded from the university website www-alld univ.edu and any alumnus may nominate any other for the award giving details of the contributions made by him or her for consideration by an award committee which has already been constituted, he added.
