LUCKNOW: A wedding procession turned tragic on the Gonda-Ayodhya Highway when a car carrying a newly-married groom and his family collided head-on with a bus. The family was returning after the groom’s wedding and was on the way to Ayodhya airport to catch a flight to Bengaluru when their car collided head-on with a Uttaranchal Roadways bus near Anbhula Mod in the Wazirganj police station area.
Three Family Members Killed on the Spot
Police said the impact of the collision was so severe that the car was reduced to mangled metal. Groom Nitin’s brother-in-law Akshat (35), cousin Ashu (34) and Akshat’s mother, Neeta Agarwal (55), died on the spot. Their bodies have been placed in the mortuary for post-mortem.
Akshat, a resident of Kanpur, worked with Canara Bank. Ashu, who hailed from Agra, was employed with EPFO in Noida.
Groom, Sister and Niece Critically Injured
Groom Nitin, whose wedding was held on 4 December, suffered serious injuries; the mehendi on his hands had not even faded. His sister Neha Gupta (28) and three-year-old niece Anaya were also critically injured. All three were taken to CHC Nawabganj and later referred to Lucknow as their condition worsened.
Eyewitnesses said the airbags helped save three occupants, although they suffered multiple injuries.
Family Devastated; Emotional Scenes at Hospital
Emotional scenes unfolded as relatives broke down on seeing the bodies.
Nitin’s father, Dilip Agarwal, said:
“My daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter, and other relatives were travelling to catch a flight. Everything is ruined.” Nitin’s aunt, Neetu Goyal, said the entire family had gathered for the 4 December wedding and Nitin was driving them to the airport when the crash took place.
CM Yogi Takes Cognisance, Orders Relief
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the incident and instructed officials to provide immediate relief and ensure proper medical care for the injured. He directed district authorities to reach the spot without delay and expedite rescue efforts.
Medical and Police Statements
Dr D.N. Singh, Chief Medical Superintendent of Gonda Medical College, said: “Three people were brought dead. Two critically injured patients were stabilised and referred to Lucknow as per the family's request.”
ASP (West) Radheshyam Rai confirmed the head-on collision between the Brezza car and the bus.
“Five persons were in the car. Three died, and two were seriously injured and later shifted to Lucknow. A small child miraculously escaped without injuries,” he said.
Police have initiated the necessary legal procedures, and post-mortem exams are underway. The accident site has been cleared, and further investigation is ongoing.
