Golden day for UP in National Games
Lucknow: It was a golden Saturday for Uttar Pradesh in the 38th National Games, as Suraj Yadav, Abhishek Tanwar, Prerna, and Shruti clinched gold medals in Wushu events held in Dehradun on Saturday. In addition to their golden success, the UP Wushu team also won one silver medal and two bronze medals. In the Sanda event of Wushu, Suraj Yadav from Varanasi won the gold medal in the men's 70 kg weight category, while Abhishek Tanwar from Gautam Buddha Nagar claimed gold in the 90 kg weight category. In the women's category of the Sanda event, Prerna of UP Police won the gold medal in the 60 kg weight category, and Shruti Saravaiya, also from UP Police, secured gold in the 70 kg weight category. Meanwhile, Bhanu Singh from Agra won the silver medal in the Changquan event under the Taolu category. In the women's Sanda event, Manisha Bhati (52 kg) and Shivani (70 kg) won bronze medals. UPOA general secretary Anandeshwar Pandey said that with this remarkable achievement, Uttar Pradesh has so far secured 10 medals, including 4 gold, 2 silver, and 4 bronze. Inter-school chess Kirti Wadhwa and Sanskriti Sonkar won the Under-19 and Under-17 girls' championships, respectively, at the 7th Shivani District Inter-School Chess Championship on Saturday. Earlier, Shivani Group founder Markandey Dubey and director Anshika Dubey inaugurated the championship. Aditri Pandey, Aadya Srivastava, Agrima Singh, Rudrani Chawla, and Aarna Srivastava bagged the championship trophies in the U-15, U-13, U-11, U-9, and U-7 categories, respectively. Anuj wins men's singles title Anuj Kumar defeated Shobhit Tandon 6-2, 6-0 to win the men's singles title in the Chandra Prakash Agarwal Memorial UP State Ranking Tennis Tournament at La Martiniere courts on Saturday. Atharva Goyal clinched the boys' Under-12 title, while Aditri Singh and Zufisha Khan claimed the girls' Under-16 doubles title. The boys' doubles title went to Rudransh Pandey and Sarthak Shukla. IG Akash Kulhari presented the prizes to the winners.Taekwondo Taekwondo players from Awadh Collegiate bagged seven gold, six silver, and a bronze medal in the UP Taekwondo Championship, which concluded at Chowk Stadium on Saturday. Aarush, Naitik, Dhairya, Pulkit, Prateek, Prakhar, and Nikhil won gold medals, while Abhiit, Ritesh, Suryansh, Avnish, Kaustubh, and Krishbh claimed silver medals. Saksham secured the bronze medal.
