GIS roadshows woo global investors with UP potential

Lucknow: The state government’s efforts to attract investments caught the attention of entrepreneurs through roadshows in the run up to the Global Investor Summit-2023 on Wednesday too with several intents, investment proposals and signing of MoUs marking the day.
A Belgian firm will set up a recycling plant in Varanasi. Here, the delegation led by minister for industrial development Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi and PWD minister Jitin Prasada signed an MoU with Gemini Corporation for the project worth Rs 200 crore.
Sharing the information on his social media profile, Nandi wrote: “An MoU was signed with Gemini Corporation to set up a recycling plant with the capacity of 300 tonnes of plastic per day in Varanasi at the cost of Rs 200 crore.”
The MoU was signed between state government representatives and directors of Gemini Corporation Ved Prakash Lata, Vishnu Agarwal, Pawan Birla, and Vivek Begwani, in the presence of senior government officials, including additional chief secretary Navneet Sehgal.
The delegation, headed by finance minister Suresh Khanna and former minister Sidharth Nath Singh, discussed in detail the use of technology in the field of agriculture with Avi Basu, founder and CEO of WingSure in New York, USA, to maximize benefits of farmers. Besides, they also met John Hendricks, CFO of Delta Energy and Communication, and Parag Amin, founder of iCreate.
In Seoul (South Korea), the delegation led by technical education minister Ashish Patel and tourism and culture minister Jaiveer Singh hosted separate roadshows. An official spokesperson said that many tour operators and business houses of South Korea expressed their willingness to invest in UP.
In another development, the delegation in UAE said that investment intents worth Rs 20,000 crore had been received by the state government from various players. “The delegation has received 25 letters of intent worth Rs 20,340 crore. Through this investment, 27,000 new employment opportunities will be created in the state,” said an official spokesperson.
The delegation also met the representatives of DP World for investment in logistics and cargo sector at Dadri.
Informing about the progress in Canada, where the delegation is being led by Vidhan Sabha Speaker Satish Mahana and animal husbandry and dairy development minister Dharampal Singh, officials said: “JMQ Global’s chief mentor and co-founder Hilmi Qureshi in Montreal expressed her desire to invest in health technology.” The delegation also met Eric Krypton, director of CDPQ, who expressed desire to invest in renewable energy and highway infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh. The delegation discussed possibilities of partnership in areas such as pension funds and finance. The delegation also met Fan Camp Exploration’s CEO and CIO Rajesh Sharma, who belongs to UP. Sharma discussed investment in the field of mineral exploration and energy reduction.
Meanwhile, an MoU was also signed between Invest UP and Canada India Global Forum on promotion of GIS 2023. An MoU was also signed with the Indo-Canada Ottawa Business Chamber which will send a group of investors for the summit. CM Yogi Adityanath has set the target of investment of Rs 10 lakh crore for GIS-2023. To achieve this goal, the CM has sent separate teams of his ministers and officers to different countries of the world to hold roadshows and one-on-one meetings with investors.
