LUCKNOW: In a repeat incident of employment racket, a gang set up a fake ‘postal department office’ and duped several youth on the pretext of providing them jobs in Lucknow. UP STF busted the gang in the city on Friday and nabbed its four members —
Rahul Singh, Pawan Verma (a contractual postal department employee), Ajit Singh and Ankit Srivastava.
Additional Superintendent of police, STF, Vishal Vikram Singh, said Rahul Singh disclosed during interrogation that Pawan Verma is posted in GPO in Railway Mail Services in Railway Postal Department and used to get fake appointment letters prepared through Akanksha Srivastava and Mohit Khare, who are members of this gang.
“In order to appear genuine, the gang duped innocents by making them visit the postal department and told them that Pawan Verma was a senior officer of the Indian Postal Services,” said Singh.
If job seekers came for recruitment in the Food Corporation and IRCTC department they were made to meet Anand Mishra. Similarly, the gang had nexus in CRPF with the help of some locals in Rajasthan. The gang used to take Rs 5 lakh to Rs 20 lakh from each youth depending on the nature of the job, the officer added.
“Efforts are being made to arrest other gang members — Sameer, Akanksha Srivastava, Mohit Khare, Anand Mishra, Kulveer Singhania and Mahipal,” said Singh. In November, Hazratganj police had busted a job racket which operated from the
income tax office premises. Its had duped 12 youths.
