From Feb 1, property registration in UP through Aadhaar-based authentication
Lucknow: The state cabinet on Thursday approved a proposal to implement an Aadhaar-based authentication system for property registration. The move, officials said, will help prevent land scams through fake registrations.
State minister (independent charge) for stamp and registration Ravindra Jaiswal said that the decision to implement an Aadhar authentication system was taken at a review meeting of the department on Aug 28 last year held by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The system will be implemented in all sub-registrar offices from Feb 1. "Through a notification issued on Aug 2, 2024, the UP Online Document Registration Rules, 2024 are being enforced. Under this, the identity of Aadhar holders will be established electronically through e-KYC, biometric authentication and e-signature. The system will be used for identity verification of executants, parties and witnesses during deed registration," he said. This system, the minister said, will prevent registration by impersonators and increase transparency in the registration process. The cabinet also cleared a decision to extend by 6 months a project to digitise old documents registered in sub-registrar offices from 2002 to 2017. The scheme initially had approval until 2022 and was to cost Rs 95 crore. Later, due to various delays, the project period was extended, with the total cost increased to Rs 123.62 crore. An official said that 99.11% of indexing and 98.37% of scanning work was completed. Currently, some work is pending in Etah, Varanasi, Moradabad, Mainpuri, Lucknow, Aligarh, Hathras, Agra, Saharanpur and Prayagraj.
