From clothing to utensils, on-site supplies for victims
Lucknow: Two days after the Vikas Nagar fire tragedy left hundreds of families devastated, support is coming from all quarters of the city to help the victims get back on their feet. A city hospital has started a week-long relief camp at the site, channelizing its regular initiative ‘Giving Saturday’ to help the victims.
The fire left many residents without shelter, clothing and basic necessities, prompting an urgent humanitarian response. Aastha Hospice and Geriatric Care Centre has set up a dedicated relief camp within the affected area, ensuring continuous access to essential supplies and healthcare services for victims.
Building on the strong community participation seen during the its ‘Giving Saturday’ collection drive, Team Aastha, comprising staff and volunteers, has begun the distribution of relief materials. Items include clean clothing such as sarees, kurtis, shirts, pants and denims, along with children’s toys. Essential household items like shoes, cookware and utensils are also being provided to help families restart their daily lives.
Aastha Hospice founder-director Abhishek Shukla said, “The organisation has also introduced a helpline number 18001801415 to encourage public participation. Residents can donate usable clothes and household items. We will offer a free home pick-up service to simplify the process.”
In addition to material support, the camp is addressing healthcare needs through free medical check-ups for fire-affected residents. Medical counselling and consultations are also being offered to help individuals cope with trauma and stress.
The relief camp will continue till Apr 25, functioning as a central support hub for the affected community.
