Fresh post-mortem reveals 9 pre-death injuries to doc’s wife

Lucknow: The second post-mortem conducted at King George's Medical University (KGMU) on the body of Priyanka Sharma, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a Pattaya hotel, revealed nine ante-mortem (pre-death) injuries, raising serious concerns about the events leading to her death. Police are consulting experts to determine how these injuries might have occurred.
The initial post-mortem report from Thailand attributed her death to "respiratory and blood circulation failure," but the KGMU report did not confirm the cause of death. Instead, it documented injuries on her forehead, the back of her head, her right arm (from shoulder to elbow), right wrist, the outer side of her left arm, and the right side of her back. A private medico-legal expert, SN Singh, examined the autopsy and injuries, explaining that multiple contusions at various locations on the body suggest physical trauma before death. He said that bruises on the forehead and back of the head likely indicate head blows, possibly caused by hitting a hard surface or object. Injuries on the arms and wrists suggest self-defence or attempts to block blows, while leg bruises may point to kicks. Singh emphasised the need for toxicology tests to determine the exact cause of death and the circumstances behind the injuries.
A city-based doctor, Dr Ashish Srivastava, has been accused of killing his wife Priyanka Sharma by sedating and drowning her in bathtub during their vacation in Thailand. A senior police officer said that the injuries described in the post-mortem report could not have been self-inflicted.
