LUCKNOW: Hasanganj police on Tuesday arrested four inter-state vehicle lifters and recovered from them a SUV, two country-made pistols, 11 SIM cards along with three cellphones and fake identification proofs of different persons.
Those arrested are Prashant Gupta of Lakhimpur Kheri, Arun Kumar Agnihotri of Wazirganj, Munna Pandey of Hardoi and Prem Kumar of Sitapur.
All of them were living here in the state capital in rented accommodations.
During interrogation they revealed that the SUV recovered from them was robbed in Shahjahanpur from a man Shaqeel, who owns a car garage. The SUV was brought to the city via Shaharanpur. Fake documents with regards to the ownership of the four-wheeler which had the signature of RTO officials of Shahjahanpur were made. The vehicle, however, could not be registered as the culprits could not obtain the NOC. The SUV was being driven by Munna Pandey on a fake registration number.
All those arrested told that they had become friends with Ajeet Singh, another vehicle lifter of Pratapgarh.
Prashant Gupta, Arun and Prem have a crime record. Prashant was booked from Madiaon in 2008 and then seven motorcycles were recovered from him, Arun was arrested along with a stolen tractor and Prem was booked from Talkatora with a stolen SUV then too.
Police were now hunting for some of their other aides who were involved in several incidents of crime.
