Four from UP to get Sena Medal

Lucknow: Four army personnel from Uttar Pradesh — Naik Nishant Sharma of Saharanpur, Major Akash Sen of Shahjahanpur, Major Arun Kumar of Jaunpur and Major Apraant Raunaq Singh of Varanasi — will be awarded with Sena Medal at Central Command Investiture ceremony at Jabalpur on February 8.Naik Nishant Sharma will be awarded posthumously for his supreme sacrifice and exemplary courage which resulted into saving of three lives.He belonged to the brigade of the guards but was attached with 61st battalion of the Rashtriya rifles when on January 18, 2021 he sustained fatal injuries on his chest, shoulder and abdomen while saving the life of his men at Laleali post in the Chhamb sector of Jammu and Kashmir.“He later succumbed to his injuries on January 24, 2021 at command hospital, northern command,” said an army spokesperson.Major Apraant Raunaq Singh of Rajputana rifles attached with 9th battalion of Rashtriya rifles in close-encounter operation, under cover fire from his operational buddy moved to an advantageous position eliminated a category ‘A’ terrorist on November 17, 2021 in Kulgam district of J&K.Similarly, Major Akash Sen of the Sikh light infantry attached with 19th battalion of Rashtriya rifles with his buddy pinned down three terrorists on May 11, 2021 in Anantnag district of J&K.While Major Arun Kumar of army service corps attached with 1st battalion of Rashtriya rifles eliminated a category B terrorist in a close quarter encounter in the wee hours of December 24, 2021 in Anantnag district of J&K.
