Foundation of new building of NAS laid

ALLAHABAD: Prof M G K Menon, a world famous scientist and past president of the National Academy of Sciences, performed Bhoomi Poojan on Friday for the academy building to be constructed at a cost of Rs 3 crore in the city.

in 1987, dr sir padampat singhania library hall was added to this building. with increasing activities of the academy, the present accommodation has become inadequate. kanvinde rai and chowdhury, noted architect of delhi, has designed the building which has been approved by the allahabad development authority. the department of science and and technology (dst), new delhi has sanctioned the required amount for the preparatory work, according to prof s k joshi, president of the academy. prof menon, in his address pointed out the contributions of late prof u s srivastava and prof krishnaji, and many other distinguished person who contributed enormously to the development of the academy. the function was attended by prof g k mehta, vice-chancellor, allahabad university, prof n k sanyal, vice-chancellor, up rajarshi tandon open university, prof m d tewari, director, iiit, prof kulkarni, director, harish chandra institute, mrs tarla joshi, prof a k gupta, prof a s gupta, prof k swarup, prof m m verma and many other distinguished guests.
