LUCKNOW: Former bank employee Rashmi Agarwal was on Wednesday found murdered at her residence in Gomtinagar. Her Alto car was found missing and two rooms ransacked. The incident came to light around 3:15 pm when her son Nishit returned home from City Montessori School and found her lying on the floor in the visitor''s room. He immediately informed his neighbours who called the police.
Nishit told TOI that Rashmi had opted for VRS from a State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Kanpur three months ago and they had shifted to their house in Gomtinagar.
His father S K Agarwal lives in Gorakhpur, where he is posted as senior manager at SBI''s main branch, and visits them on weekends. About two months ago, Nishit''s cousin Suchitra, an architect working with a construction firm on Jopling Road, moved in with them.
On Wednesday, after Nishit had left for school and Suchitra for office around 9:30 am, only domestic help Preeti, a resident of Jugauli, was in the house with Rashmi. Preeti revealed that after finishing work she was about to leave around 10:30 am when three youths arrived to meet Rashmi. "They were in their mid-20s and one of them was clad in black trousers, white shirt and brown shoes. He had a moustache, wheatish complexion and average height and built. As I was in a hurry, I did not notice the other two," Preeti told TOI. "Rashmi met them outside and appeared familiar with them," she added.
Three used water glasses were found on the dinning table. When Preeti left, Rashmi was clad in a red salwar suit, but when her body was found she was in a pink one. Her hands were tied together with a dupatta. She had no visible injury marks on her body except those on her neck suggesting strangulation byduppata. A file containing documents relating to installation of a water filter, an air conditioner and some drawings of a gym was found on the table. But some documents were supposedly missing along with Rashmi''s telephone dairy.
