LUCKNOW: Several folk and traditional dances were staged during the diamond jubilee celebration of Uttarakhand Mahaparishad here on Wednesday.

Organised at their office in Kurmanchalnagar, Lavani performance by Anupama Srivastava and her team, Kumaoni and Garhwali folk dances left an ear-to-ear smile on the faces of the audience. City based Garhwali folk singer Shrishti Nautiyal enthralled the audience by her mellifluous voice.

Besides, 100 individuals or the families, who have been associated with the organisation for years, were felicitated for their contributions in terms of promoting art, culture and traditions of the hill state.

Mayor Sushma Kharakwal and Member of Legislative Assembly (Govindnagar) Surendra Maithani were the chief guests.

President of the organisation Harish Chandra Pant said: "Uttarakhand Mahaparishad earlier known as Kumaon Parishad is one of the oldest organisations started by the people of Uttarakhand. They have been successful in establishing and achieving their goals."

Former president of the mahaparishad Navin Joshi gave lucid information about the 75-year journey of the organisation.

He spoke about how in 1948 Daya Krishna became the president of the organisation and build it with his hard work and courage.

Joshi also highlighted the role of all former presidents in building and taking the organisation to new heights.
