LUCKNOW: An entire family of six, including four minors, and a teenaged relative died of asphyxia and burns when fire broke out in the singleroom residence of a security guard Kishan Pal at Ram Bharose Maiku Lal Inter College (RBMLIC) in Telibagh late on Tuesday night. A short-circuit is suspected to be the cause of fire.
The victims were first knocked off unconscious by the fumes and then died of burns.
Senior police officers, including DIG BL Meena, SSP Navneet Sikera, SP (East) RKS Rathore and CO Hazratganj Rakesh Jolly rushed to the site to supervise the operations which ran into early morning.
"It was around 2:15 am when I woke up to a pungent choking smell like the one noticeable when nylon, plastic or rubber is burnt and came out of my room," said physical training instructor of RBMLIC Bipin Babu Singh, who also lives within the campus. "I saw thick clouds of smoke billowing from behind the tree outside Kishan Pal’s room," said Bipin, who raised an alarm and rushed to inform the college principal SP Singh who too lives on the campus.
