LUCKNOW: A major tragedy was averted on Friday evening as fire triggered at a fuel station located across Ring Road in Thakurganj area. An alert driver pulled away the pipe that had caught fire in a jiffy and rushed away.
The incident took place at Jai Ma Durga petrol pump located in Malpur area. The fuel station staff was busy loading petrol inside underground storage unit.
The driver of the petrol tanker inserted the pipe inside the unit. As per sub-inspector
Atul Srivastava, in charge of the local police outpost, a lit 'bidi' triggered the fire which soon spread onto the pipe from which the fuel was being supplied.
"But the alert driver immediately removed the pipe and took it away from the storage unit," said Srivastava. Other staff members rushed with fire extinguishers and doused the flames before they could have taken a bigger shape.
