Lucknow: A man was booked for allegedly posting an objectionable and inflammatory message targeting chief minister
Yogi Adityanath on Facebook to provoke unrest and hurt public sentiment.
Dilip Lodhi, a resident of Indiranagar, informed Hazratganj police that he came across a Facebook post uploaded from the account of Vijay Shyam Yadav. The post allegedly featured a morphed and objectionable image of the chief minister along with derogatory and provocative captions.
Lodhi alleged that the content was deliberately designed to malign the chief minister’s image and incite anger among various sections of society. He claimed that the post had the potential to disturb communal harmony, spread hatred and create enmity among people.
“The objectionable content not only hurt my sentiments but also those of lakhs of people across Uttar Pradesh. It appears to have been shared with the intention of spreading unrest and disrupting social harmony,” the complainant said.
Based on the complaint, an FIR was lodged against Vijay Shyam Yadav and other unidentified people who might have been involved in creating or amplifying the content.
SHO Hazratganj, Vikram Singh, said an FIR was lodged under Sections 196 (promoting enmity between different groups), 197 (making or publishing statements harmful to national integration), 299 (outraging religious feelings) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 66 of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008.
