1 killed, 15 injured after speeding bus overturns
Lucknow: A woman was killed while 15 others sustained injuries after a speeding private sleeper bus overturned on Kisan Path in Lucknow's Gosainganj area on Friday night. The bus was coming from Bahraich to Delhi and overturned after a front tyre burst, said police. SHO, Gosainganj, Brijesh Kumar Tripathi said the accident occurred near Dular Mau on the Kisan Path village. The bus driver could not control the vehicle since it was speeding," said Tripathi. Passersby informed the police, following which emergency teams were quickly dispatched to the accident site. The deceased was identified as Shahida, 60, a resident of Bahraich. "Police and rescue teams took out the trapped passengers from the mangled bus," said ACP, Gosainganj, Kiran Yadav. Yadav said the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team was also called to the scene to assist in the rescue operation. A crane was used to remove the overturned bus after the passengers were rescued, Yadav added.There were 80 passengers in the bus. The injured were taken to local hospitals, where 10 of them were discharged after primary treatment. Most of the injured passengers were from Fatehpur and Karnailganj. The bus driver and the cleaner fled after the accident. "We are making efforts to nab them. A case has been registered and we are looking into the circumstances that led to the accident," said additional DCP, South Zone, Rajesh Yadav.
