Fake arms licence: Role of clerk under lens

Lucknow: A day after a chargesheet was filed against Sandeep Kumar Singh aka Pappu Singh, brother-in-law of Samajwadi Party MLA from Ayodhya’s Goshainganj assembly seat Abhay Singh in connection with fake arms licence case, the Lucknow police has written to DM demanding a probe into the role of clerk facilitating arms licence. Singh was arrested by STF on May 27, 2023 and handed over to Vibhuti Khand police. The police had recovered a made in England rifle and an Italian made pistol from his possession.He is said to have procured a fake licence for the rifle at an address in Nagaland and later got it transferred to Lucknow's 107B, Darulshafa, Hazratganj address in 2004, said the chargesheet.A senior police officer said the licence was transferred to the address of jailed don Mukhtar Ansari.Later, Singh had presented another fake affidavit in 2005 to get a licence for a pistol issued to him by the Ayodhya police.Police said despite having nine FIRs in his name, Singh managed to secure arms licences. “During probe it surfaced that Singh got the licence from Nagaland by bribing touts. He had then deposited the arms at Nanda Gun House in Lucknow and got the licence transferred,” said an officer.Senior police officials added that during probe files of the accused were found to be missing from the office of the district administration. “We have demanded a probe by Lucknow DM Surya Pal Gangwar into this and the role of clerk facilitating arms license,” said ADCP, east zone, Syed Abbas Ali.
