Eye on 2027, BSP starts holding booth level cadre camps
Lucknow: With a year left for the Assembly elections in UP, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has intensified its basic organisational activity by holding camps for cadre at the booth level. The party is constituting five-member committee of president, vice president and three secretaries, at every booth. After the formation of the committee, a camp for cadre is held as an orientation programme for the members."We have started with smaller cadre camps as of now. As and when more committees are formed, we will increase the number of participants in these camps," said a senior party functionary. The cadre camps of the BSP are behind closed doors. People from SC, ST and OBC communities can only participate in these camps.According to sources, the information shared in the camps may antagonise certain sections of society, because of which participation is restricted. The camps recount the atrocities committed against 'Bahujans' by privileged communities, including the upper castes. If cadre camps get open to all, it may nullify the party's social engineering formula, which is based on inclusive politics and will be the strategy driving the party's campaign for the 2027 Assembly elections in the state. The cadre camps also sensitise new members and joiners on the 'Bahujan' movement and the party's mission. "The aim of the camps is to develop an emotional connection between the cadre and the party. The 10 percent votes that the party still commands in UP is because of such organisational activities," said a party functionary.Meanwhile, the members being appointed at the booth and other levels of the party organisation are also being mainly drawn from 'Bahujan' communities, which include the SC, ST and the OBC communities, along with religious minorities. The members of the committee are mostly locals who are connected to people in their area.
