LUCKNOW: A seminar on 'inclusion of persons with disability and creating positive environment for them' was organised by SPARC-India, a voluntary organisation working for persons with disabilities, on Tuesday in the city. The programme was organised to mark the completion of 15 years of existence of SPARC. The speakers said that the objective of bringing people with disabilities into mainstream can be achieved by creating an inclusive environment, which is a challenging, thought provoking and rewarding experience.
Dr Ratnesh Kumar, director of National Institute for Orthopedically Handicapped (NIOH), Kolkata, was the chief guest at the seminar. Amitabh Mehrotra, founder-chairperson and director, SPARC-India, welcomed the participants. The first session of the day was chaired by Dr
Rajesh Tandon.
He talked about the rights of people with disabilities.
The seminar came out with an action plan for Lucknow city. Experts said that concerted efforts by government, public, law and order system, judiciary, politicians etc can play a major role in making Lucknow as well as the whole state an 'inclusive one' for the people living with disabilities. Rajesh Tandon, president, PRIA New Delhi; G Shyamla, executive director, AADI; Poonam Natrajan, and Sudha Kaul, founder-director of Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy (IICP), Kolkata, also attended the seminar.
