`Excessive stress is detrimental'

ALLAHABAD: The students of M Psy HRDM, under the aegis of ASHRAM (Association of Students for Human Resource Advancement and Management) of the psychology department, University of Allahabad, organised a summer project presentation contest on Monday.

eminent personalities in the field of management, ak chaudhari, former chairman bynl, s p gupta, secretary, allahabad management association, and professor raj shekhar, monirba, constituted the panel of judges. the first prize went to ms yashodhara giri (m psy hrdm student) whose presentation was on `organisation stress at bridgestone acc ltd.'. the major assertion with which she made her presentation was that some amount of stress is essential for the organisation and how excessive stress could prove detrimental to the organisation. second prize was awarded to ms. smita mishra sumi of monirba. her topic was `performance appraisal system at ntpc with special reference to its simhadri unit'. she elaborated on the various aspects of a good appraisal plan, the different approaches and systems for performance evaluation and appraisal. the third prize went to ms nalini sinha of the department of business management studies, dr hsg university, sagar (mp). her topic was `structuring the learning and listening process to determine the customers expectations and requirements at tisco, jamshedpur. some other presentations were on industrial relations at bpcl, naini, quality circles at recron synthetics ltd. naini, organisational culure (octapace) at western india shipyard company, goa, training and development at bhel, bhopal, industrial relations at iti, mankapur and exit interview analysis at care india, new delhi. the programme was convened by ms deblina seth while ms shivani sharma proposed the vote of thanks. a k chaudhuri shared the views of s p gupta on the events and emphasised the importance of the summer project stint for students who intend to be hr professionals, but are usually unaware of the organisational realities. the stint does provide a learning space andvaluable insights to the functioning of the respective organisations for the summer trainees. he said through different forums this message needs to be conveyed so that the organisations acknowledge the amount and kind of help a trainee could deliver in 6-8 weeks. the event, first of its kind, did lend an opportunity for students to appreciate a link between theory and practice, and also to acknowledge modes of inquiring into different organisational realities. the event was sponsored by pukhraj maroo of mp text book corporation, indore, shervani syndicates ltd. and pepsi co., says rushda naqvi `ashram' (m psy hrdm), in a press statement.
