Lucknow: A day after a retired merchant navy officer was found murdered in Mohanlalganj area, police on Thursday detained two persons, including one of his relatives. The police acted on the FIR lodged by his son in which he accused the relative of killing his father over a money dispute.
The body of a 62-year-old retired merchant navy officer, identified as Nand Kumar Tiwari, a resident of Jaunpur, was found with the throat slit in a field in Mohanlalganj on Wednesday.
Police also recovered a knife and a diary near his body. Tiwari’s son Raj Kumar, who is also in merchant navy, lodged an FIR in which he said that he was arrested and sent to jail in June earlier this year in a dowry related case.
At the time of arrest, he added, he gave his belongings and ATM cards to a relative, Rajnish Mishra, who resides in Vrindavan colony.
After being released earlier this month, Kumar said that he collected the belongings, but later found that Rs 5.5 lakh had been withdrawn from his bank account. “My father had come to Lucknow on Tuesday to meet Mishra to resolve the money dispute and was found dead the next day. I suspect that Mishra killed my father,” he alleged in the FIR.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Zone, Rahul Raj said that Mishra and a friend of his have been detained for questioning.
