‘Emotional engagement crucial in fighting addiction for drugs’
Lucknow: Lucknow University, in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau, organized a seminar under the 'Nasha Mukt Bharat' campaign on Tuesday.The programme was initiated by PVK Sharma, dean of students' welfare, who highlighted the importance of health awareness in combating drug addiction.David, a psychiatrist, discussed the eradication of addiction, emphasizing the need for youth education and emotional engagement in addressing the issue.Kul Prakash Siddharth gave an in-depth presentation on narcotic drugs, explaining their types, including heroin, cannabis, cocaine, depressants, stimulants, and hallucinogens. He outlined the reasons for drug use, such as curiosity, peer pressure, anger, and stress, while detailing the physical and behavioural symptoms of addiction.Siddharth also discussed the social, health, psychological, and legal costs of drug abuse and elaborated on the NDPS Act's provisions. He concluded with a strong message, 'Put it out before it puts you out,' while sharing the helpline number 1933 for drug-related assistance.CSK Singh spoke on the legal implications of drug use, detailing the five stages of addiction use, abuse, habit, dependence, and addiction.
