E-crime profiles to catch traffic violators
Lucknow: Flouting a
traffic norm
and getting caught can now cost you dear. A 'crime profile' bearing a photograph of the offender will be created, and if you commit the offence more than once, the history would be available online for all the enforcement agencies to see.The e-challan, which was functional as a pilot project in Lucknow and Noida, was, on Friday, extended to 18 divisional headquarters and six other districts, which report 'overloading' of vehicles as a major offence.
For a month, officers would be allowed to issue both manual and e-challan. Later, in phases, the manual system of issuing challans would be replaced with that of e-challan.
"By March, we will roll out the system in the entire state," said the official. In days to come, traffic violators would be able to pay the challan online, as well. Sources in the transport department said, at present, efforts are on to make available a payment facility to those who log in to pay online.
