LUCKNOW: With the probe in the Dr BP Singh murder case making no headway, UP Police announced a cash reward of Rs 2 lakh for anyone who shares vital information about the brutal killing.
Dr Singh, who joined as CMO, Family Planning and Welfare just a month before on February 26, 2011 was sprayed with over a dozen bullets while he was on a morning walk with his friend Dr PK Singh in Vishesh Khand locality of Gomtinagar police station area.
He was the second person holding this post to have been killed in this manner.
It was just six months ago, on October 27 that his predecessor Dr Vinod Kumar Arya was killed while he was on a morning walk in front of Sector 14 branch of Rani Laxmi Bai School in Vikasnagar police station area.
The police after arresting two alleged sharp shooters on December 12 had claimed to have solved the murder case and claimed that the two along with the main executor of the crime, Sudhakar Pandey, who is still absconding, killed Dr Arya at the behest of mafia don Abhay Singh who gave a contract of Rs 5 lakh for the job.
However, the murder of Dr BP Singh on Saturday in a similar fashion has once again questioned the police claim of solving Dr Arya case. Even senior police officials have now started doubting the claim of the cops in the first murder, said an official preferring anonymity.
With not much hope of headway and the increasing pressure on the law and order front, DGP Karamveer Singh announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh for those who were ready to throw light on the murder of Dr Singh. The name of the person would be kept a secret, the police said and added that any information with regard to the case could be shared with Special DG (law and order), DIG Lucknow, DIG STF and SP (TG).
In another development, the Lucknow police have provided security to Dr PK Singh, one of the main eyewitnesses, who was with Dr BP Singh at the time of the incident.
A pen-drive found from the pocket of Dr BP Singh, the police said, has not revealed much. A senior police official said that the drive contained just a letter of Dr Singh's association. The police were also investigating into an alleged dispute over a payment of Rs 86 lakh, which was being dealt with by CMO, Family Planning and Welfare.
