LUCKNOW: The Provincial Medical Health Services Association has come out in support of its 22 colleagues named in the multi-crore National Rural Health Mission scam who are being prosecuted by the Central Bureau Of Investigation. Addressing reporters, president, Dr DR Singh said, "All those named in the case are innocent. Most of them have worked for more than 20 years in the government services and have a spotless career." He further said that the doctors executed the orders given by the chief medical officers.
The CBI had sought a prosecution sanction against 22 doctors. Demand note for the first case included the names of 20 doctors and two office staff. The names are: Dr Chandrajeet Yadav, Dr Neelima Singh, Dr KU Saxena, Dr Chitra Singh, Dr RB Lal, Dr Sumedha Yadav, Dr Indu Bala, Dr Rekha Chowdhury, Dr Anjani Pant, Dr
Sadhana Tripathi, Dr Kusumlata Gautam, Dr KN Anand, Dr SK Trivedi, Dr RK Gupta, Dr MK Singh, Dr AK Pathak, Dr Neeta Srivastava, Dr Maya Chowdhury, Dr CK Jaiswal and Dr Chitra Saxena. Clerk PC Verma and health education officer, Kamlesh Singh are also a part of the said list. The second case has 10 names of which nine are doctors while one is a clerk. Seven of these doctors have their names in the first case list as well. These are: Dr AK Shukla, Dr Chandrajeet Yadav, Dr Neelima Singh, Dr Arun Kumar Chowdhury, Dr CK Jaiswal, Dr Sumedha Yadav, Dr Anjani Pant, Dr Geeta Bharti, Dr Chitra Singh and clerk Sanjay Anand.
The association came down heavily on the attack on doctors. "Many of our innocent colleagues are targeted by people for petty reasons, which is not in the interest of the society," said Dr Nirupama Singh, another office-bearer. She added that the association has demanded adoption of the Medical Professional's Safety Act, which is effective in some of the southern states. Privately practicing doctors have also been demanding the same since long.
