LUCKNOW: A group of men thrashed a doctor while demanding Rs 13 lakh as
extortion from him in
Indira Nagar
. The miscreants also used casteist remarks on him during the attack.
The victim identified as Dr Bishwjeet Biswas runs his clinic in Amrai village in the area. In the night of May 30 when he was closing the clinic for the day, the accused, whom he named as Prabhakar Singh, Deepak Singh, Shakti Singh, Nitesh Singh and Kailash Pal, all of Amarai village in the area, stormed the clinic.
“They all started beating me without any provocation and demanded Rs 13 lakh as extortion. The accused abused me saying I belonged to the
Pasi
community and had shifted to Lucknow from Bengal,” the victim said.
“I lost my reputation in the locality despite being in the noble profession of a doctor who treats all without any favour. I was saved as my sympathizers reached the scene. But I am feeling insecure as they may attack me again,” he said.
